GenAI Developer Course in Ahmedabad

Building with GenAI is software development. You call model APIs from Python, decide what goes into each request, check every response, connect documents and tools, and prove it all works with tests. Here is the skill ladder, a real test run, and how we help you climb it.

At Computer Education And Cybernetics, GenAI development is part of our AI path at Maninagar, Nikol and Vatva in Ahmedabad. Counseling comes first, at the centre — we warmly welcome you and your parents to visit before admission.

What skills does a GenAI developer need?

Eight skills, each building on the one before. Each has a small piece of proof that shows you have it.

A GenAI developer builds applications that use generative AI models. The core skills are reliable Python, calling model APIs with error handling, integrating them into apps, designing context, validating structured outputs, retrieval from documents, tool calling with argument checks, and testing with unit tests and evaluation sets. Computer Education And Cybernetics (CEC) in Ahmedabad teaches these in order as part of its AI learning path.

  1. 1. Python you can rely on

Functions, files, error handling and virtual environments.

Proof: A script that reads a folder of files and never crashes on a bad one

  2. 2. Calling model APIs

Sending requests, reading responses, handling rate limits, timeouts and keys kept out of code.

Proof: A function that retries a failed call and returns a clear fallback

  3. 3. Integrating into an app

Wrapping model calls in your own API so a website or mobile app can use them.

Proof: A small web service with one endpoint and input checks

  4. 4. Context design

Deciding what goes into each request: instructions, facts, history, and what to leave out.

Proof: A context builder you can test without calling the model

  5. 5. Structured outputs

Defining response formats and validating them in code before using them.

Proof: A schema plus a validator that rejects bad responses

  6. 6. Retrieval

Splitting documents, creating embeddings, finding the right passages and passing them to the model.

Proof: Answers that cite which passage they came from

  7. 7. Tool calling

Letting the model request functions, checking the arguments, running them and returning results.

Proof: A tool that refuses arguments that fail validation

  8. 8. Testing

Unit tests for your code, an evaluation set for model answers, and both run on every change.

Proof: A test suite that fails when a prompt change breaks old answers

Practice task

Write a Python function that calls any model API with a 10-second timeout. Make it retry once, then return a fixed fallback message instead of crashing. Test it by switching off your internet. What we do with you here: a trainer reviews the function and tries to break it.

How is a GenAI developer different from other AI roles?

Three roles that often get mixed up in course listings.

A worked example: the support assistant and its 30 tests

Retrieval, tool calling, error handling and regression testing, in one app.

  1. The app

A support assistant for a home-appliance shop answers questions from product manuals (retrieval) and checks warranty status through a get_warranty(serial) tool.

  2. The test suite

You write 30 test cases: manual questions with expected answers, warranty checks with real and fake serial numbers, and error situations. The first run passes 21 of 30.

  3. Failure 1: bad tool arguments

In three cases the model copies the serial number with a character missing, and the tool returns “not found”. Fix: check the serial against its known pattern before calling the tool, and ask the customer to confirm it if it fails.

  4. Failure 2: no error handling

Two cases simulate the warranty service timing out, and the whole app crashes. Fix: a timeout, one retry, and a polite fallback message saying the check will be done by staff.

  5. Failure 3: a prompt change

Making the tone friendlier caused three manual answers to add promises the manual does not make, such as free installation. Fix: an instruction to answer only from the retrieved passages, and a regression test on those three cases.

  6. The result

29 of 30 pass. The remaining case, a question mixing Gujarati and English, is logged as a known gap. Every future change runs all 30 tests before it ships.

How do you test a GenAI application?

Model answers vary, so one kind of test is not enough. Use three layers.

  • Unit tests for your code

Context builders, validators and tool functions tested without calling the model. Fast and exact.

  • Evaluation set for model answers

Real-style inputs with expected answers or rules, scored on every run. Catches wrong or invented answers.

  • Failure tests

Timeouts, empty results, bad inputs. Checks the app degrades politely instead of crashing.

What we do with you here: every project ships with all three layers, and a trainer adds one test you did not think of.

Where is GenAI development heading?

Models change fast; well-built apps survive the changes. What we do with you here: you swap the model in one project and use your tests to prove nothing broke.

  • Models switch often

Teams change models for cost or quality every few months. Apps with a clean API layer and a test suite can switch in a day; apps without them break silently.

  • More actions through tools

GenAI apps increasingly act: updating records, sending messages, booking. Validating tool arguments and limiting permissions is becoming a core developer skill.

Where models still fail inside apps

  • It passes slightly wrong arguments to tools, such as a mistyped ID
  • It adds claims that are not in your documents when asked to change tone
  • It writes app code without timeouts, retries or tests unless you insist

GenAI development is shifting as teams switch models every few months for cost or quality, and as apps use tools to take real actions. The lasting skills are a clean API layer, validated tool arguments, limited permissions, polite failure handling and a test suite that runs on every change. Computer Education And Cybernetics (CEC) has learners swap models in a project and prove with tests that nothing broke.

How we train GenAI developers

Code, tests and review on every project, the way development teams work.

  1. 1. Counseling places you on the ladder

We check your Python and start you at the right rung, so nothing is skipped or repeated.

  2. 2. Tests before features

Each project starts with the test cases it must pass. You add features until they pass.

  3. 3. Trainers break your app on purpose

Timeouts, bad inputs, odd questions. Your app must fail politely, not crash.

  4. 4. Code review on every project

Keys out of code, clear functions, validation before tool calls, readable commits.

  5. 5. AI assistants used openly

You may use them to write code. Your tests decide whether that code is good enough.

Questions about becoming a GenAI developer

  • What does a GenAI developer do?

Writes the code that puts generative AI inside applications: calling model APIs, designing context, validating structured outputs, adding retrieval from documents, connecting tools and testing everything on each change.

  • What skills does a GenAI developer need?

Reliable Python, model API calls with error handling, app integration, context design, structured outputs, retrieval, tool calling and testing. At Computer Education And Cybernetics (CEC) these are taught in that order as part of the AI path.

  • How is a GenAI developer different from a prompt engineer?

A prompt engineer improves instructions. A GenAI developer builds the software around the model, including APIs, tools, error handling and tests. Prompting is one part of the developer’s work.

  • What is tool calling?

The model asks your code to run a function, such as checking warranty status. Your code validates the arguments, runs it and returns the result. In our example, validating the serial number fixed three failures.

  • How do you test a GenAI application?

Three layers: unit tests for your own code, an evaluation set of real-style inputs with expected answers, and failure tests for timeouts and bad inputs. In our example, the suite went from 21 to 29 of 30 passing.

  • Why can a prompt change break an app?

Models react to every word. In our example, a friendlier tone made three answers add promises the manual did not make. A regression test caught it before customers saw it.

  • Do I need to know Python first?

Yes, at least the basics. If you are new to it, we start there; the rest of the skills build directly on it.

  • Is there a separate GenAI developer course at CEC?

These skills are taught within our AI path, mainly in AI Development using Python (Job Oriented), with Generative AI & LLM Development for a deeper focus on language models. Counseling helps you choose.

  • How does CEC help me become a GenAI developer?

Through projects that end as tested apps, about 80% practical, guided by our 25+ full-time trainers. We stay with you until you get a job, based on your performance in training, projects and interviews.

  • Where can I learn GenAI development in Ahmedabad?
