If you want that title, we start with the desk—not the advert: knowledge you can explain, programming you can rerun, a model or API you can check, a project someone else can try, then a specialization that still looks like engineering. Role-based discovery means we name the work. At CEC, AI engineering is code plus a checked model or API plus something that runs twice. We do not sell the advert.

A skill-gap conversation comes before a course name. Honest answers change where you start—not whether you are allowed to talk to us.
If not, programming comes before any engineer title.

If not, AI development and projects are the missing hours—not a new job ad.
A function learned from examples, or a hosted model you call. Fluency is not understanding.
Columns you can name, rows you can split, leaks you can refuse. Mystery CSVs do not count.

If you cannot yet write a script, that is a start point—not a closed door. High AI use later does not replace this hour.
Usually Python after counseling. Functions, files, virtual environments, and a traceback you can read without pasting it blindly into a chat.
Git with a sentence a teammate can understand. A README with one run command. Tests for the one behaviour you claim.
A question, a split, a simple fit, a held-out score, two example mistakes. That is engineering evidence—not a leaderboard screenshot.
